Re: request for Netscape

My friend Clive,

I finally understood the Netscape freezing problem, after you told me fonts where not responsible for it.
Here I am behind a firewall that blocks comunications between me and any external site, except if it is delivered to firewall by means of a socks port. That's why I should install Netscape. Chimera and lynx do not allow socks definition.

Well, the default Netscape preferences file define Netscape site as the openning page before I had the opportunity to define socks.
Then the program, when started, was continuously trying to access Netscape site and blocked by firewall in an endless loop.
Surprisingly there is no stop button in this Netscape version to end this process.

To fix this I edit preferences file removing initial page definition. Then Netscape starts with a blank page allowing socks network and other options definition.

Now I have another problem:
Without socks definition, I can access our Intranet pages but not any Internet one.
With socks defined, I get a connection denied for any page internal or external.
But this is another chapter...

Thanks for your friendly and detailed help,

Renato
