Don't let the vendor provenance put you off; this is a good piece of writing that presents much useful information about the technology. THE GILBANE REPORT ================== Also in March, a new publication was launched that focuses on SGML and related themes: The Gilbane Report on Open Information & Document Systems. Bi-monthly subscriptions are $195 per year in the U.S. If you tell him that Chris Locke referred you, Frank might just part with a copy of Vol. 1, Number 1. Definitely worth a look. While such exclusivity might be challenged these days, it remains a source of articles, reviews, product news, tutorials, standards updates, user group information, case studies, and technical tips and information. At last check, a year's subscription to was $180 in the U.S. For more information, contact: Brian Travis, Managing Editor The SGML Newsletter 6360 Gibraltar Circle Aurora, Colorado 80016-1212 (303) 680-0875 (303) 680-4906 (fax) brian@sgmlinc.com USENET ====== If you have access to USENET, the comp.text.sgml newsgroup is a primary source of information about the SGML standard. Be forewarned, however, that unless your interests run to the deeply technical side of things, this may be a lot more than you really want to know. On the other hand, posters to this group may be a valuable source of background and commentary -- increasingly, participants are from companies rather than universities. If you do not have access to USENET, there's still hope. The following is from Erik Naggum who manages this group. If you should be unable to _read_ the newsgroup, you may request to be added to the comp.text.sgml mailing list by sending a message with the subject "subscribe comp.text.sgml" to . If you should be unable to _post_ to the newsgroup, articles mailed to will be posted to comp.text.sgml. The headers may be edited to include a missing References header in replies, but will be posted automatically if all required headers are present and valid. I'd like the two paragraphs about access to the newsgroup for people with no access to USENET to be distributed as far as possible. Your help is appreciated.
