This directory is for contributed software, of varying usefulness.
Your mileage may vary.

PLP-lpd-filters-v1.2.tar.Z

A good set of filters to handle HP Laserjet printers of the III and 4
series, with plenty of support for their specialised features.
These were developed at the Division of Computing Facilities of the
Computer Technology Institute (CTI), Patras, Greece.

fconvert-1.1jm.tar.gz

A version of the "fconvert" automatic format-conversion tool,
hacked to support more than one output format (such as PostScript &
HPGL for HP printers) and with minor SVR4 porting. Based on
fconvert by either jimj@cs.uwm.edu, or "software engineering teams"
from the University of Wisconsin -- Milwaukee, I'm not sure which. ;)

genpc.tar.gz

A simple script to automate creation of printcap files for networks.
PLP doesn't need this as it supports multiple printcaps, but if you
use a mixed network of BSD and PLP lpds, this may be handy. By
    Patrick Powell and Scott Fischer.

lprps-2.6plp.tar.gz

A version of LPRPS, adding support for PLP and porting for SVR4.
    By Stefano Ianigro.

psf-3.6.tar.gz

A very configurable text-to-postscript converter, by Tony Field
    <tony@ajfcal.cuc.ab.ca>.

Some other software elsewhere on the net that might be useful:

Other useful printer-and-postscript-related utilities -- check your
local comp.sources.misc archives, read the comp.lang.postscript FAQ,
use archie, etc.:

GhostScript includes instructions for using gs as an "if" filter
to provide postscript queues for non-postscript printers,
		in the file "unix-lpr.doc".

    psnup	postscript manipulation

    a2ps	another text-to-postscript pretty-printer

groff	troff clone, with postscript output

hpdriver	driver for HP PJL printers (4M) for accounting
	    	URL: ftp://ftp.cs.umn.edu/users/lemay

Send updates to this file, and new contrib software, to <jmason@iona.ie>.

Especially welcome are scripts to convert printcap files to and from
the formats that PLP uses for NIS and Hesiod lookups. ;)

If a piece of software is already available over ftp, send me a pointer
and some info; I'll add it here. Try to keep things relevant to PLP
and LPD filters, rather than just printing in general.
