THE FREEDOS BETA6 ("MIDNITE") DISTRIBUTION ERRATA Jim Hall Updated Aug 13 2001 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the errata file for the Beta6 distribution. I'll post any problems/updates with the Beta6 in this file. Please read this file before reporting bugs against Beta6, to make sure that you are not reporting a problem that is already known. If you find a bug in the FreeDOS Beta6, please do not email me directly. Instead, please post a bug in the FreeDOS Bugtrack database (please search for your bug first - try to avoid entering a duplicate bug.) See http://www.freedos.org/bugs/ COMMONLY MIS-IDENTIFIED AS BUGS: * Floppy access under the FreeDOS kernel is still a little slow. The installation will take longer than you may expect, and running programs from the Install Boot Floppy is slow. * The GUI disk set only includes SEAL. I didn't have enough time to include the other systems with this disk set. Sorry. * The NET disk set is not included. Rather than inflict a half-baked set into the distribution, I have decided not to include the NET. THINGS THAT ARE BROKEN: * Not every package will show a description during the install process. This is because I did not get a chance to update all the LSM files before posting the Beta6 Mini official distribution. * The FreeDOS kernel will freeze if you attempt to load NANSI.SYS. There was a problem with the kernel 2023 and NANSI.SYS. This appears to be solved; try the current kernel (below). PACKAGES TO UPDATE: (get from http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/) * The Beta6 distribution uses Kernel 2023b, plus FreeCOM 0.82. The SYS command seems broken in 2023b, so I am using SYS from 2022b2. * The LANG disk set was not updated since Beta5. * The UTIL disk set was barely updated since Beta5. The only update was CuteMouse 1.8(final). * The FreeDOS Install program version 3.7.1 was released 4/15/01. * TDSK has been updated. The official version, with source, is 2.3. Matthias is working on a new release, binary only, at 2.42(beta). * FDXMS was mis-labelled. To avoid further confusion, the correct version 0.1 by Louis has been posted at ibiblio as fdxms011s.zip. * SYS 2.0a (Tom Ehlert) was released 4/27/01. This is also included in kernel 2024b and later kernel releases. * DISKCOMP 0.72 was released 5/3/01. * XKeyb 1.6d was released 5/27/01. * CHOICE 3.3, FIND 2.2, HELP 3.2, MORE 3.1 were released 6/16/01. * EDIT 0.5 was released 6/24/01. * TREE 3.7 was released 7/9/01. * FreeCOM 0.83 Beta26 was released 7/21/01. * ATTRIB 1.1 was released 7/28/01. * DISKCOPY 0.6 was released 7/28/01. * FDXMS 0.8 was released 7/28/01. * FORMAT 0.8 was released 7/28/01. * Kernel 2024f was released 7/29/01. * MEM 1.2L was released 8/13/01. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
