As I tried to compile the 2.0.36 kernel the way I have done it
before, I ran into some unusual difficulties:

Everything is fine at the start, I can configure the kernel options
and save then, but when I run "make dep" it allways fails in
/drivers/char dir even before aplying patches and runnign from
freshly extracted kernel source (mkdep fails with error code 135 if
that helps)

Well I quess I have to try under different distribution..

I could have sworn that I havenät even booted that old laptop since
compiling the apm kernel on it :(
