486 would be better.. I'ts just that here in Liverpool there are one or two dealers who seem to have a direct connection to God when it comes to sniffing out old computers being scrapped. They are then reselling as private individuals ( a very dubious practice legality wise) at prices which are way over the top for the machine specs to the vast student (read mugs) population. Result.. over inflated prices for complete machines and a definate lack of boards around here.
Why pinch the RTC .. simple, the RTC physically contains the ram used to store the bios settings..remove and you 'kill' the board and so no resale value.
