Hello,
please do not download archives related to incoming 10r0.
I found a bug in the Samba configuration. Setup/smbd was
designed to trust in a single network interface system.

From smb.conf manpage: interfaces= option
--------------------------------
This option allows you to setup multiple network inter-
faces, so that Samba can properly handle browsing on all

smb.conf 1.9.18p8 13 Jun 1998 33

SMB.CONF(5) SMB.CONF(5)

       interfaces.

The option takes a list of ip/netmask pairs. The netmask
may either be a bitmask, or a bitlength.
--------------------------------

Now, in setup/smbd, user can specify a list of interfaces name:
ppp0, eth0, plip etc and IP/NETMASK are assigned dynamically
using the ifconfig result.

In this way, putting a sequence like:

                # setup ppp0 device=/dev/ttyS0 IP=noipdefault
                .... other setup ...
                # setup smdb INTERFACES=ppp0

produce this nice effect: the system starts a ppp serial link in
slave mode (noipdefault), but Samba will use the the right
interfaces ip/mask for its browsing.

Good, isn't true? A samba server on the serial line, without
assigned IP.

I'd like to conclude with a positive statement, but I can't
remember any. Would two negative ones do? -- Woody Allen
