                              Champaign, Illinois

Welcome to the Office of GRASS Integration's FTP distribution directory. This
archive is intended to be a quick, convenient, and low-cost way of obtaining
GRASS source, contributed files, documentation, data, and bugfixes over the
Internet.

The server is designed to be especially "user friendly" -- it will supply help
as you navigate the directories, and will remind you to read README files as
appropriate. It also supports dynamic compression/decompression and dynamic
creation of tar-archives; a file containing documentation about this server and
some of its non-standard capabilities can be found in ftpHelp/ftpInfo.txt or
ftpHelp/ftpInfo.ps in text or Postscript formats respectively.

Always check the README files that are placed within the archive's directory
structure, as well as the messages that our FTP server sends when you change
into a directory.

There is a file called ls-lR.Z in the root directory of the GRASS archive
(after you type 'cd grass' for the first time) Use 'get ls-lR' to receive
this file. This file contains a recursive directory tree of the entire
archive, and is especially useful if you have problems using the ls command.
