Binaries + diffs for Xpilot on Linux 0.99p10, gcc 2.4.3/libc 4.4. Sources are available at authors' FTP site - see docs. Xpilot is an arcade style shoot-em-up, reminiscent of Space War, Asteroids, and many other vector graphic games. It can be played by a number of people over a network, or standalone with game robots to keep things interesting. *** NOTE: this game is an X server, network and CPU bandwidth hog! (but worth it ;-) ;-) ;-) ) Recommended is an accelerated video card w/XS3 or X8514, and a 486 CPU. X386mono produces good animation speed on dumb frame-buffer video cards, but only 3/4 or so of the game window is visible at 800x600 resolution. I've seen xpilot freeze up on occasion with the net-2 networking code, Linux 0.99p10). Such behavior has not been observed with earlier kernels 0.99p8 and 9. There also appear to be problems when xpilot has to search for a server, so supplying the server's hostname may be necessary. These problems should go away with future kernel/compiler releases. To install binaries, cd / and untar the archive as root. Quick start: xpilots & xpilot YOUR_HOSTNAME_HERE <- fill in appropriately (Hit return at the prompt to enter the game) To compile from sources, untar the original sources archive, cd to the src subdirectory and apply the patch with -p0 there. xmkmf, make.
