ODBTalk for Visual Age
======================

ODBTalk, the ODBC API for Visual Age for Windows and OS/2 allows the
Smalltalk developer to interface to ODBC-compliant  data sources.  This
provides a common way for applications to access many databases
concurrently, and to add or move to other databases in the future with
minimal changes to the application code.  The full ODBC SDK 2.1
specification is supported - core, level 1 and level 2.

There are now available ODBC drivers for more than 50 data sources, from
large platform databases to UNIX relational-SQL databases down to local
PC databases.  Use ODBTalk to develop database access logic once for
multiple RDBMS and for the Windows and OS/2 Visual Age environments.

ODBTalk provides support for all ODBC native data types , all parameter
types and positioned statements (native or via the ODBC cursor library).
Online help, a sample application and 50+ programming examples are

OO to RDBMS Mapping
===================

ODBTalk includes a framework for mapping Smalltalk classes to relational
tables and  vice-versa, based on types and brokers.   This provides
automatic retrieval and instantiation of objects mapped to a relational
database as well as update, delete and insert capabilities.  This
mapping can also be used to automatically generate classes reflecting
the database structure. It is well suited to complex client-server
applications with a thick object layer.
